Join our dynamic and growing team, where there’s room for development and progression. As a Trainee Headstone Technician, your work preserves the dignity of resting places and brings peace and comfort to families by maintaining their loved ones’ memorials with the utmost care and precision.
We are looking for someone to work 30 hours per week, guaranteed, on an annualised hours contract. This means your weekly hours may vary depending on the season, but your pay stays consistent throughout the year. There is plenty of opportunity for overtime between March and October, and the role may grow into a full-time position in the future as the business continues to expand. A company van is provided, and full training will be given — no previous experience in memorial care is required.
The Headstone Technician is responsible for cleaning, restoring and preserving headstones and memorial sites. This role involves maintaining both the memorial and its immediate surroundings to ensure a respectful, well-kept resting place. A company van and all materials are provided to support daily travel to cemeteries and work sites across the region. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, confident in using a variety of tools, and committed to delivering high standards of service.
 Key Responsibilities
- Clean headstones using non-abrasive methods and specialist equipment.
- Remove moss, lichen, dirt, and staining to restore original appearance.
- Renew lettering through gilding, repainting, or other restoration techniques.
- Apply protective treatments to help prevent future weathering or damage.
- Weed and tidy and maintain the area surrounding headstones and memorials.
- Trim grass, clear debris, and maintain a neat landscape.
- Communicate with the admin team to understand client needs.
- Provide clear updates, including before-and-after photos.
- Offer advice on long-term maintenance of memorials.
- Maintain detailed records of services, materials used, and time spent.
- Document the condition of headstones before and after work for client records.
  Tools and Safety
- Confident use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand tools.
- Operate cleaning and restoration tools safely and effectively.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times.
Skills
- A full, unrestricted driver’s licence.
- Strong willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled with hands and comfortable performing detailed, precise manual tasks
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
- Physically fit; able to lift and handle heavy materials.
- Comfortable using PPE and restoration tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional, respectful approach when interacting with bereaved families.
- Understanding of basic health and safety procedures.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary of £30,000, pro-rated to 30 hours per week (£22,500)
- Plenty of overtime available from March to October
- 28 days of annual leave including bank holidays, pro-rated (21 days)
